Gentlemen’s Major Competitions
TOP DOG TROPHY
This Competition was instituted, and the Trophy presented by Mr.
D.D. Newton. Qualifiers will be the winners of the eight Major Medal
Competitions as indicated above. The Competition is Match play, off
handicap (full difference), over 18 holes to be played on the same dates
as the Worthington Memorial. Matches ‘all square’ after 18 holes will
continue to a ‘sudden death’ finish.
In the event of any qualifier being unable to play he will be replaced by
the runner up or third place in that competition. Should none of the first
three be available, then the players who came 2nd in their respective
majors and who have not already gained admission to the Top Dog will
be balloted for the final place(s). If there are no 2nds then the 3rd placed
players will be balloted.
The regulations regarding replacements, postponements and
abandonment will be the same as for the Worthington Memorial Trophy.
In the event of any player qualifying for both the Worthington Memorial
Trophy and the Top Dog Trophy that player shall be entitled to choose
which competition he competes in, and his replacement will be decided as
above.
The winner will receive a memento, which will be presented at the Dinner
following the end of season Captain’s v President’s Match, and have his
name inscribed upon the Honours Board.
